ECHA: Notification deadline for 10 SVHC substances contained in articles

Manufacturers and importers must notify ECHA of the substances listed in the candidate list in their articles, if both conditions are met:

  • The substance is present in the reference articles in a concentration higher than 0.1% by weight.
  • The substance is present in those reference articles in quantities exceeding one ton per year.

Companies must be notified no later than six months after the inclusion of the substance in the candidate list

The 10 substances listed below were added to the Candidate List in June 2018. By December 27, 2018 it is necessary to notify these substances in articles.


The substances are:

  • Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) (EC 209-136-7). This substance can be found in building materials, floors, furniture, curtains, toys, shoes, leather goods, electronic equipment and paper products (eg textiles, feminine hygiene products, diapers, books, magazines, wallpaper) .
  • Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) (EC 208-764-9). This substance can be found in tires, brake pads, wood products and treated fabrics.
  • Dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) (EC 208-762-8). This substance can be found in articles produced from polymers and polysiloxane resins (used, for example, in construction, aerospace and automotive).
  • Ethylenediamine (EC 203-468-6). This substance can be found in adhesives and sealants, coating products, fillers, fillers, plasters and plastilins.
  • Terphenyl hydrogenated (EC 262-967-7). This substance can be found in coatings, inks, adhesives and sealants, and plastic articles.
  • Lead (CE 231-100-4). This substance may be present in batteries, lead plates, hot dip galvanized steel, lead solder, lead ammunition (non-military), cable sheath and metal items.
  • Disodium octaborate (EC 234-541-0). This substance can be found in building materials, refractory mixtures (including stone, plaster, cement, glass, ceramics, and wood articles).
  • Benzo [ghi] perylene (EC 205-883-8). This substance is not registered according to the REACH regulation. It can be found in vulcanization agents, adhesives, binding agents and conductive agents.
  • Benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2 anhydride (trimellitic anhydride) (TMA) (EC 209-008-0).
  • Dicyclohexyl phthalate (DHCP) (EC 201-545-9). This substance can be found in plastic articles, PVC, rubber and plastics.
