REACH: REACH Korea Update

The updated K-Reach entered into force on 1 January 2019.

There are about 7000 existing chemicals that will be subject to K-Reach Registration.

Companies make joint registration (Joint registration) which will be mandatory for substances that need to be registered by multiple registrants. Failure to comply with the registration deadline will not allow the substance to be placed on the market.

The deadlines will be:

  • pre-registration of the chemical substances by 30 June 2019 to take advantage of the transitional periods;
  • registration of substances over 1,000 t / y and those identified as CMR over 1 t / y by 2021;
  • registration of substances in the 100-1,000 t / a range by 2024;
  • registration of substances in the 10-100 t / a band by 2027;
  • registration of substances in the 1-10 t / a range by 2030.

Any new chemicals will not have the transitional period and must be registered before they can be placed on the market.
