ECHA: Controls on restrictions

The last project of the ECHA enforcement forum was aimed at assessing whether restrictions are being respected.

6,625 inspections were carried out for over 1,000 blends, almost 4,600 articles and 17 substances. The average non-compliance rate was 18%.

The highest non-compliance rates concern:

  • phthalates in toys in concentrations above 0.1%
  • asbestos fibers in second-hand products such as catalytic heaters, thermos, brake pads, cement materials, a lantern and a water bottle.
  • mercury in measuring devices
  • cadmium in brazing fillers and jewellery,
  • chromium (VI) in leather articles equal to or greater than 3 mg / kg
  • nickel in metal parts of clothing and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH).

All companies that place products or chemicals on the European market must comply with the REACH restrictions. This means that suppliers of products at all stages of the supply chain are responsible. Therefore, if you place products on the market, you need to know the chemicals that contain their products.
