ECHA: When and why is it necessary to update the registration dossier?

The purpose of REACH registration is not an end in itself but has the objective of keeping updated information about the product portfolio of chemical substances.

The registration dossier is responsible for reporting all available information on chemicals and how to use them.

The dossier must be updated when new data on the substance are available, for example:

  • composition data
  • on its properties
  • the field of use
  • risk management measures
  • changes in volume produced / imported

ECHA has the task of examining the registration dossiers and verifying the information provided. 5% of the tonnage bundle files are checked during compliance checks.

ECHA will publish advice on how to keep the registration dossiers updated on 6 November 2018.
