What happens when a substance enters the candidate list?

The Lead is present in the list of candidates starting from June 2018 and could be included in the future list of substances in authorization.

Every year ECHA will ascertain how it is given to substances, considering the volume and potential of exposure and whether there are dispersive uses.

ECHA selects the SVHCs with the highest score and statements to a commission involving members of each EU Member State.

This is a commission to decide whether or not to include the XIV substance and the granting of any exemptions.

The metallic lead due to its amount of use can attract the attention of ECHA.

If the REACH Committee of the Member States agrees to include metal lead XIV, the substance will be added at the beginning of 2021; applies one day at sunset.

The experience with the use of metal lead in the EU has been their application at least 18 months before the expiry date to avoid interruptions in the supply chain.
