ECHA: Publication of the Commission decision on the authorization of certain substances

Release decisions regarding the authorization of certain substances in Annex XIV of REACH have been published in the EU Official Journal.

The authorizations concern the uses of the following substances:

  • Bis (2-methoxyethyl) ether (diglime): Use as transport solvent in the formulation and subsequent application of etching fluid based on sodium naphthalene for the modification of fluoropolymer surfaces, while preserving the structural integrity of the article.
  • 1,2-dichloroethane: Use as a solvent in the manufacture of polymeric particles for pharmaceutical and research purification processes.
  • 1,2-dichloroethane: Use as extraction solvent in the degreasing activities of vacuum distillates of oil and deasphalted oil and de-oiling of soft paraffin for the production of base oils and paraffin waxes.
  • 1,2-dichloroethane: Used as a reactive medium and a solvation agent in the mediation of subsequent chemical transformation reactions for the manufacture of an active pharmaceutical ingredient, raloxifene hydrochloride.
  • 1,2-dichloroethane: Use as an industrial solvent in the manufacture of the highly purified final intermediate product of Iopromide, the active pharmaceutical substance for the Ultravist® radiological contrast agent.
  • 1,2-dichloroethane: Use as a process solvent for the manufacture of a pharmacologically active raw material: flecainide acetate and as a process solvent for the manufacture of a pharmacologically active raw material: nefopam hydrochloride.
  • Chromium trioxide: Use for the preparation of surfaces of cryogenic aluminum alloy tanks used in the Arianna 5 launcher.
  • Chromium trioxide: Industrial use in the hard chrome cladding of the rods and auxiliary parts of small and medium-caliber firearms, subject to thermal, mechanical and chemical stress, in order to confer hardness, heat resistance properties , thermal barrier, corrosion resistance, adhesion and low friction.
  • Chromium trioxide: Industrial use of chromium trioxide in the hard chromium coating of indoor reeds and auxiliary parts of firearms for civil use, subject to thermal, mechanical and chemical stresses, in order to confer a low friction coefficient as well as properties of resistance to heat, corrosion and wear.
  • Chromium trioxide: Industrial use for the treatment of copper sheets used in the production of printed circuits "
  • Formaldehyde: Formulation of an epoxy resin hardener containing technical MDA and industrial use of an epoxy resin hardener containing technical MDA designed to immobilize the spent ion exchange resins in high containment matrices.
