ECHA: the 12th ATP was published

The Regulation (EU) 521/2019 was published, which aims to implement the sixth and seventh revision of the GHS at European level through the CLP and consequently the changes adopted worldwide in 2014 and 2016.

The changes that come into force are the following:

• generic threshold values
• introduction of a new hazard category "pyrophoric gases" within the danger class "flammable gases";
• modification of the classification criteria for substances and mixtures that emit flammable gas in contact with water
• introduction of a new danger class for desensitizing explosives
• general provisions for classifying mixtures as aerosols;
• details of the definitions and classification criteria, depending on the case, for explosive hazard classes, flammable gases, flammable liquids, flammable solids, acute toxicity, skin corrosion / irritation, serious ocular lesions / eye irritation, respiratory tract sensitization and skin, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, toxicity to reproduction, specific toxicity for target organs and danger.
• modification of some indications of danger and some precautionary statements.

The Regulation will come into effect starting from 17 October 2020, it is possible to apply the new Regulation even before that date.
