HFPO-DA enters in the Candidate List of SVHCs:
Last 27 June 2019 the Member State Committee (MSC) unanimously agreed to identify 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-2-(heptafluoropropoxy)propionic acid (HFPO-DA), its salts and its acyl, as substances of very high concern (SVHCs).
This substances are used as processing aids for producing fluoro-polymers with many applications, but they recently have been identified by the Netherlands as concerning, due to their very high persistence, mobility in water, accumulation in plants and observed effects on human health and the environment.
The high persistence and accumulation of these substances in the environment is highly worrying and harmful to humans, who are also exposed through the food chain and drinking water.
For these reasons, by mid-July 2019 the substances will be included in the Candidate List and the companies that could be involved in this update are required to comply by this date.
