TOYS: Directive (EU) 2019/1922 on the safety of toys

The Directive (EU) 2019/1929 has been published which modifies the appendix C of the Annex II of the Toys Directive in the light of the available tests and the recommendations of the group of toys safety experts.

Appendix C contains the "Specific limit values ​​for chemicals used in toys intended for children under the age of 36 months or in other toys intended to be placed in the mouth" which is amended by Directive (EU) 2019/1929 to include them the entry concerning formaldehyde:

Formaldehyde CAS 50-00-0:

LIMIT VALUE:

1.5 mg / l (limit of migration) in polymeric materials for toys

0.1 ml / m3 (emission limit) in wood agglomerated with resins used in toys

30 mg / kg (limit content) in textile materials for toys

30 mg / kg (limit content) in leathers and skin for toys

30 mg / kg (limit content) in paper-based toy materials

10 mg / kg (limit content) in water-based materials for toys.

 

The Directive entered into force on 10 December 2019 and must be adopted by the Member States by 20 May 2021 in order to apply its provisions from 21 May 2021.
