ECHA: Improve water quality

ECHA together with EFSA has announced that it will be responsible for compiling and managing a positive list of materials that come into contact with drinking water. The goal is to improve drinking water quality and access. to it, as well as to provide better information to citizens. The first positive list should cover around 1,500 chemicals and will be adopted by the European Commission by 2024.

The substances used in the materials to produce, for example, water pipes and taps will be evaluated. The harmonization of evaluation also ensures a level playing field for companies that supply these materials in different European countries.
