REACH: Formaldehyde included in the list of carcinogens category 1B

Formaldehyde has been included in the list of carcinogenic substances 1B (table 3.1) / category 2 (table 3.2), appendix 2 of Annex XVII of Regulation (EU) no. 1907/2006 by Regulation 2018/675.

Formaldehyde had already been classified as a carcinogen of category 1B by Regulation (EU) no. 605/2014, but the Commission has chosen to exclude it from the last update pending the outcome of the evaluation that ECHA was carrying out. On 16 March 2017, at the meeting of the Committee established by Article 133 (1) of REACH, most Member States expressed a preference for the inclusion of formaldehyde under heading 28 of Annex XVII of REACH.
