CLP: proposals for harmonized classification and labeling

  • (RS) -1- {1-ethyl-4- [4-mesyl-3- (2-methoxyethoxy) -otoluoyl] pyrazol-5-yloxy} ethyl methyl carbonate; tolpyralate (CAS 1101132-67-5): The proposal provides for classification as H351, H373 (eyes, kidneys), H400 with M-factor = 10, H410 with M-factor = 100. The substance is used as a broad-spectrum herbicide, effective against broad-leaved weeds in maize crops.
  • p-mentha-1,3-diene; 1-isopropyl-4-methylcyclohexa-1,3- diene; alpha-terpinene (CAS 99-86-5): The proposal provides for classification as H226, H317A, H361, H304, H400 with M-factor = 1, H412. The substance is used as one of the ingredients of the terpenoid mixture (terpenoid blend QRD460), an active substance for plant protection products. In addition, alpha-terpinene is found in the essential oils of various plants and is used since the '50s in fragrances for soap, detergents, creams / lotions and perfumes.
  • 1-isopropyl-4-methylbenzene; p-cymene (CAS 99-87-6): The proposal provides for the classification H226, H331, H304, H400 with M-factor = 1, H412. The substance is used as one of the ingredients of the terpenoid mixture (terpenoid blend QRD460), an active substance for plant protection products. In addition, p-cymene is used in a wide range of applications, including polishes and sanitary products such as soaps and detergents and has been registered as an intermediate.
  • (R) -p-mentha-1,8-diene; d-limonene (CAS 5989-27-5): The proposal provides for classification as H226, H315, H317B, H304, H400 with M-factor = 1, H412. The substance is used as one of the ingredients of the terpenoid mixture, an active substance for plant protection products. In addition, d-Limonene is used in a wide range of applications, such as dried paint products, orange fragrance, secondary cooling fluid and cleaning products.

The consultation for the first substance will end on 2 July 2018 while for the other three on 20 July 2018.
