What are D4, D5, and D6?

Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4, CAS No. 556-67-2),
decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5, CAS No. 541-02-6),
dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6, CAS No. 540-97-6).
They are used in cosmetics and other products to provide a smoothing and refreshing effect, but they are considered highly persistent and bioaccumulative.

Regulations

Restriction No. 70 under the REACH Regulation prohibits placing these substances—or mixtures containing them—on the market at concentrations equal to or greater than 0.1% by weight.
The restrictions apply to various sectors, including cosmetics (both rinse-off and leave-on products).
