REGULATIONS - MATERIALS IN CONTACT WITH FOODS: Publication of Transparency Regulation

The "Transparency Regulation" or Reg 2019/1381 of 20 June 2019 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

This document modifies and updates the previous legislative acts, with important implications for materials and objects intended to come into contact with food.

The purpose of the Regulation is to facilitate citizen's access to data relating to risk assessment and food safety, allowing a greater level of transparency and communication on the food chain.

To this end, all scientific data supporting applications for authorization or approval must be notified to EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority). The latter, once the application is admitted and validated, will publish and make the results accessible to the public, always with respect for intellectual property and the protection of the operators in the sector.

More details will be provided in a subsequent circular
