Chemicals compliance
In light of the current scenario of the packaging recycling chain and the opinions of some of the Consortia, Conai has decided to introduce new reductions in the environmental contribution for five packaging materials: steel, wood, plastic, biodegradable and compostable plastic and glass.
The reductions, which are estimated to bring companies savings of almost EUR 170 million, will be effective as of 1 January 2023.
These changes will have an impact on certain flat-rate/simplified procedures for the import of full packaging, as the rate to be applied on the total import value for packaged food products will be reduced, while for non-food products the rate will remain unchanged.
The flat-rate levy on the weight of only the packaging of imported goods will also fall.
Finally, the simplification project will be launched which will lead to the abolition of periodic declarations of the environmental levy.
