REACH: Call for evidence on possible restriction of flame retardants

ECHA’s draft screening report identified a risk for children from exposure to the flame retardants TCEP, TCPP and TDCP in flexible polyurethane (PUR) foams in childcare articles and residential furniture.

The substances are:

  • tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) (EC 204-118-5);
  • tris(2-chloro-1-methylethyl) phosphate (TCPP) (EC 237-158-7);
  • reaction mass of tris(2-chloropropyl) phosphate and tris(2-chloro-1-methylethyl) phosphate and Phosphoric acid, bis(2-chloro-1-methylethyl) 2-chloropropyl ester and Phosphoric acid, 2-chloro-1-methylethyl bis(2-chloropropyl) ester (TCPP) (EC -);
  • tris[2-chloro-1-(chloromethyl)ethyl] phosphate (TDCP) (EC 237-159-2).

ECHA recommends that a restriction proposal be prepared. This call for evidence aims to collect further information in support of a possible restriction proposal, as well as comments on the draft screening report and its conclusions.

The call for evidence is open until 8 February 2018.
