On 27 August 2026, the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) issued a circular providing further guidance on the application of Legislative Decree of 20 February 2026, which transposes EU Directive 2024/825 on environmental claims and Greenwashing, with particular reference to the management of existing stock.
The new provisions will apply from 27 September 2026.
For durable goods already produced or placed on the market before this date, packaging adjustments may, indicatively, be made within a six-month period, while the necessary corrective measures must nevertheless be implemented from 27 September, for example with regard to promotional materials, labels, points of sale and online channels.
Companies must also be able to document that the products were manufactured or placed on the market before 27 September 2026.
For perishable goods, no specific deadline is provided, given the presumed faster depletion of existing stock.
