The substance is widely used as an ingredient in the fragrance industry. For several years, it has been at the center of various regulatory evaluations at the EU level.

In particular, it is worth highlighting the CLH proposal: in December 2025, the RAC concluded its evaluation of the harmonized classification proposal submitted by France regarding the following hazard classes:

  • Repr. 1B, H360Df
  • Aquatic Acute 1, H400
  • Aquatic Chronic 1, H410

Consequently, the use of this substance could face restrictions or bans. The exact timeline has not yet been defined, but the final CLH is expected to become applicable between 2028 and 2029.
