Environmental labelling of packaging: requirements for Spain

13, Sep, 2024 | Sector Chemical Compliance

Starting in 2025, new labelling requirements for packaging will come into effect in Spain, as laid down in Royal Decree 1055/2022.

According to this regulation, all domestic packaging will have to clearly state the container in which it is to be disposed of.

Each producer is free to choose how to communicate this information, however the Spanish Producer Responsibility Organisation Ecoembes has developed pictograms, which can be used free of charge and voluntarily, and are already widely recognised by consumers.

Packaging without the new labelling and placed on the Spanish market before 1 January 2025 can be disposed of while stocks last.
